Do I need Canvas admin access to set this up?

For the initial setup, yes - a Canvas administrator needs to create the Developer Key with LTI credentials. Once configured at the account level, instructors can add PlayQuizNow to their courses without admin help. Some institutions allow course-level app installation.

How do I add PlayQuizNow to my Canvas course?

After your admin configures PlayQuizNow, go to Course Settings → Apps → View App Configurations → + App → By Client ID. Enter the Client ID your admin provides. Then create an External Tool assignment to use quizzes in your course.

How do grades sync back to Canvas?

Quiz scores are automatically sent to Canvas using LTI Assignment and Grade Services (AGS). Scores appear in the Canvas Gradebook and SpeedGrader. You can configure the assignment point value in Canvas; PlayQuizNow sends a percentage score.

Can I use PlayQuizNow in Canvas modules?

Yes! You can add PlayQuizNow as a Module Item using External Tool. You can also add it as a regular Assignment (with grade passback) or as a Course Navigation link for quick access to the quiz library.

Does it work with Canvas Student app?

Yes! PlayQuizNow is mobile-responsive and works when students launch quizzes from the Canvas Student mobile app. The quiz opens in the mobile browser, and grades sync back to Canvas normally.

What student data does PlayQuizNow receive?

Only essential data: student name, Canvas user ID, email (if shared by Canvas), course context, and role. We never receive passwords or sensitive information. All data handling follows FERPA guidelines.

Can I restrict PlayQuizNow to specific courses?

Yes. Canvas admins can configure the Developer Key at the account or sub-account level. Instructors can also choose whether to enable the app in their individual courses.

Follow these steps to configure PlayQuizNow at the Canvas account level

Access Developer Keys

Configure LTI Key Settings

Set Key Name to 'PlayQuizNow'. Enter the configuration URLs below. Set Method to 'Manual Entry' or 'Paste JSON'.

Set LTI Advantage Services

Enable 'Can create and view assignment data', 'Can view submission data', and 'Can create and update submission results'.

Enable Placements

Enable placements for: Assignment Selection, Link Selection, Course Navigation (optional). Set target link URI for each.

Save and Enable

Save the Developer Key. Copy the Client ID shown. Toggle the key State to 'ON'. Send us the Client ID and Canvas URL.

After Creating Developer Key: Send Us Your Details

Once you've created the Developer Key in Canvas, email the following to info@playquiznow.com:

Client ID - The ID shown after saving the Developer Key (e.g., 10000000000001)
Canvas URL - Your Canvas instance URL (e.g., https://yourschool.instructure.com)
Deployment ID - Usually same as Client ID, or found in the tool configuration

We'll complete the registration and confirm within 24 hours.

Instructor Quick Start

Once your admin has configured PlayQuizNow, follow these steps to add quizzes to your course

Go to Course Settings

Open your Canvas course. Click 'Settings' in the course navigation menu.

Navigate to Apps

Click the 'Apps' tab, then click 'View App Configurations'.

Add PlayQuizNow

Click '+ App'. Select 'By Client ID'. Enter the Client ID provided by your Canvas admin.

Create Assignment

Create a new Assignment. Under 'Submission Type', select 'External Tool'. Click 'Find' and select PlayQuizNow.
